Shamrock Students Nepal

This is our CURRENT funding project!

Shamrock School Nepal was founded in March 2006 by Duncan Cradden to provide English-language based quality education to children from small subsistence-farming villages in the high Himalayas with limited education options beyond primary schooling. With the help of donations, the school operated until March 2024. That’s a total of 18 years!

The closing of Shamrock School Nepal

In recent years, the costs of running Shamrock School increased dramatically. Two major factors drove the rise in costs:

1)     a significant increase in the cost of renting the school premises; and,

2)     a government-imposed substantial increase in teacher salaries.

Unfortunately, donations to the charitable trust, including Asociación Shamrock Nepal, funding the Shamrock School were not able to keep pace with the cost increases. Representatives of the charitable trust, therefore, decided at the end of 2023 to close Shamrock School, making 2023-2024 the final academic year.

That year, the Shamrock School had a total of 40 students, ranging from class 6 to class 10, who needed to complete their secondary education, transition to new schools, or return home. Working closely with each child, the school and the charitable trust worked to support these children during the transition process.

Six of the students in class 10 successfully completed the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) in April 2024, thereby obtaining a Certificate of Secondary Education before the closing of Shamrock School.

Nine students from class 9 registered at Hill Point Secondary Boarding School in Pokhara to complete their final year of secondary schooling during the 2024-2025 academic year. They took the SEE in April 2025 to obtain their Certificate of Secondary Education. Contributions from our generous community of patrons covered their schooling and boarding expenses.

The remaining 25 students from Shamrock School returned to their home villages to continue their education without financial support from Shamrock School.  Out of those 25 students, seven needed critical social and financial support. Shamrock Spanish Charity (Asociación Shamrock Nepal #70276, Barcelona, Spain) decided to support these students with the ongoing help of our kind donors so that they too have been registered at Hill Point Secondary School beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.
